Vision includes growth for Rock Falls, Sterling

Published: Saturday, April 5, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

I, a citizen of Sterling, write to share a vision of mine. What if Rock Falls, Sterling’s sister city, were to have its own medical center, a world-class provider of health care, and it was called the Rock Falls Clinic?

What if high-tech manufacturing came to Rock Falls and it was called CBR Computers Inc., and it manufactured MP3 players, Android PC tablets, and Ubuntu Linux PC tablets?

What if there was a regional mental health provider in Sterling providing improved services like what the Singer Mental Health Center in Rockford provided?

Would the jobs to be had be worth much to the communities in the area?

What if there was an institution of higher education called the School of Nursing Institute, and it was affiliated with the Rock Falls Clinic? What if the training at said institution allowed one to train as a certified nursing assistant all the way up to nursing practitioner? Would those be valued by the community?

What if a steel and other metals reclamation smelter was set up in Sterling and Rock Falls? What if an ethanol fuel retailer was based in the area, and an ethanol or gasohol refinery was operated in the region, and outlets were put up all over the Midwest, or even franchises were possible? What if the retailer were called Ethanol America and the other Gasohol America?

What if three privately owned prisons were operated successfully at a profit by a private concern in the Prophetstown area? And what if they were one medium security prison and two minimum security prisons? Would those have value as job creators?

I leave these ideas for your readers to ponder and consider, and hope to highest heaven’s Creator I can make this all come true.
