The List: First quarter honor roll in 2014 music

Published: Monday, March 31, 2014 12:21 p.m. CST

As we prepare to begin the second quarter of 2014, I thought it appropriate to share with you some of the better records I've listened to so far this year.

It's been a much better start to the year in music than in 2013, which was kind of a down year for music. But there already has been a good number of albums that have caught my attention this year.

Here's a list, in no particular order. (I'll save the ordering for my Best of 2014 list at the end of the year.) I suspect there will be a number of bands on here you haven't heard of. If you haven't, give them a listen!

• Against Me, "Transgender Dysphoria Blues"

• Young the Giant, "Mind Over Matter"

• Together Pangea, "Badillac"

• Farewell Dear Ghost, "We Colour the Night"

• Bombay Bicycle Club, "So Long, See You Tomorrow"

• Breton, "War Room Stories"

• NO, "El Prado"

• Dinosaur Pile-Up, "Nature Nurture"

• Elbow, "The Take Off and Landing of Everything

• Battleme, "Future Runs Magnetic"

• Future Islands, "Singles"

What have you been listening to so far this year?
