Estaban Sosa took the loss for Sterling (0-3), allowing eight runs (two earned) and 11 hits in three innings.
Rockford East 16, Oregon 7: Matt Murray tripled and drove in three runs for the Hawks in a home loss to the E-Rabs.
Skylar Short also drove in two runs for Oregon (1-0). Taylor Brubaker took the loss, allowing eight runs and seven hits and three innings.
Amboy 4, Riverdale 2: Logan Thake tossed six innings, allowing just one hit and four walks while striking out nine, and the Clippers beat the visiting Rams.
River Ridge 4, West Carroll 0: Shaun Magill and Marshall Benters combined to give up just one hit, but the Thunder dropped a road game to the Wildcats.
Magill and Josh Sullivan each had doubles for West Carroll.
Dixon 5, Jefferson 0: The Dukes began their season with a blanking of the J-Hawks at the Emma Hubbs Tennis Courts.
John Brechon and Sam Bratt won singles matches, while Keenan Longan and Zach Healy, Ian South and Justin Wilson, and Andy Clark and Brandon Helfrich won in doubles.
Thunder finish third: Cameron Ehlers and Jeff Casey won individual events for West Carroll in a five-team meet held at River Ridge High School.
Competing were Pearl City (100.5), Glena co-op (80.5), West Carroll (74), Lena-Winslow (70.5) and Dakota (27.5).
Ehlers won the 300 hurdles (48.2), while Casey won the 1,600 (5:33.8).
Skyhawks drop two: Sauk Valley dropped a pair of road games to Illinois Valley, 4-0 in the opener and 6-3 in the nightcap. Mario Pacheco and Drake Maltry were the losing pitchers.
