Grateful for successful pie auction

Published: Saturday, April 5, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

Thanks to everyone for making the 15th annual WSDR Celebrity Pie Auction for Relay For Life of Whiteside County another great success.

Fabulous creations, including cakes, pies, cookies, and hanging baskets of flowers from 31 celebrities who entered the auction this year, were put up for auction, and more than 65 people were in attendance March 14 at WSDR.

At the end of the day, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Whiteside County had raised $12,686.62.

Thanks to everyone who took part: WSDR for its sponsorship of the pie auction, the baker celebrities who baked creations and gathered funds, the volunteers for their part in manning the phones and organizing the event, and to the public who donated their support.

Like the Relay For Life, this truly is about a “community that comes together to finish the fight.”

Note to readers: Russ Siefken and Betty Clementz are the publicity co-chairs.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
