Girls roundup: Warriors blank Pretzels
Lexy Staples tossed six shutout innings, and Shannon Long smacked two home runs to lead Sterling to a 10-0 victory in six innings against visiting Freeport on Monday.
Staples (3-0) allowed just two hits, struck out 10 and didn't walk a batter in six innings. Long drove in five runs, and Karlie Mellott added a pair of RBIs. Emily McDonald smacked a double and a triple.
Dixon 9, Byron 3: Erin Smith went the distance for the Duchesses, allowing two earned runs, seven hits and four walks in a win over the Tigers in Byron.
Smith helped her own cause by going 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI. Bre Grobe tripled, singled and scored three runs, while Haley Fitzsimmons added a pair of RBIs.
Amboy 13, Riverdale 3, 6 innings: Micaela McCoy tripled, singled and drove in two runs as the Clippers handled the Rams in Amboy.
Karlee Doege got the win, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings.
Erie-Prophetstown 13, Fulton 3, 5 innings: Kylie Ackerman went 3-for-3, drove in four runs and was the winning pitcher as the Panthers handled the Steamers in Prophetstown.
Also for Erie-Prophetstown (3-1, 1-0 Three Rivers North), Laykin Miner was 3-for-3 and scored three runs, while Emily Cox singled twice, walked once, scored three runs and drove in four.
Morrison 12, Newman 0: The Fillies scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish off a run-rule win against the visiting Comets.
Brooke Stralow drove in three runs for Morrison (2-0, 1-0 Three Rivers North), and Shannon Finneran added two.
Forreston-Polo wins two: The Cardinals rolled to a pair of victories – 14-0, 10-0 – against Scales-Mound-River Ridge on the road.
Destiny Darmon had four hits, including a triple and a double, in the opener. Meg Cullor had three hits, including a double, in the second game.
Alleman 20, West Carroll 0: The Thunder managed just two hit in a non-conference road loss to the Pioneers, who rapped out 19 hits.
