John R. ‘Dick’ Long

VERO BEACH, Fla. – John R. “Dick” Long, 77, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. He farmed for many years in Polo and worked with Forsyth County Parks and Recreation in Cumming, Ga., before retiring.

Dick was born Sept. 8, 1936, in Dixon. He married Karen Adams on April 4, 1959, in Sterling. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo and Church of the Good Shepherd in Cumming.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Veronica Spellman of Cumming; sons, Rick (Sandy) Long of South Beloit and Timothy (Debi) Long of Chetek, Wis.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.  

Local visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. April 5 and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. April 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo. Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory in Vero Beach is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established.
