Voter apathy opens doors for bad guys

Published: Saturday, March 29, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

This is my open letter to all who might lack integrity, honesty and other good character traits – especially those who aren’t troubled by a conscience.

You should run for political office in Whiteside County. The residents don’t care who’s in office, so why don’t you join them? Once you get elected, you’ll have a job for life and many opportunities to enrich yourself by pocketing taxpayers’ money.

Eighty-five percent of 31,000 Whiteside County residents shunned the polls – (“shunned” means didn’t vote at our March 18 primary). I’m wasting my time composing this, because the 31,000 to whom I want to offer this opportunity probably rarely read the Gazette or any paper. They won’t hear of the opportunity I offer.

I write to encourage all unprincipled persons to run for office because once you’re in office, you’re there for life, ignored by people too disinterested and uninformed to watch what you do.

This is an opportunity for you bad guys to prepare for running for the next election. Remember, once you’re in office, you can stay there for life for as long as you like, regardless of the type of person you are. And, Whiteside County is the best place to start.
