ROCK FALLS – There will be one special public meeting, instead of two, to review the proposed city budget for the next fiscal year, which begins May 1.
The finance committee meeting set for Wednesday has been canceled because a City Council member will be out of town. City Administrator Robbin Blackert will present the budget in one session, at 5:30 p.m. today in council chambers at City Hall, 603 W. 10th St.
Originally, the general fund portion of the budget was going to be reviewed today, and the enterprise funds part on Wednesday.
Service-driven enterprise funds are derived from utilities run by the city. Rock Falls provides its own electric, water and sewer services.
The general fund is used for day-to-day operations. Most of the revenues in the general fund are tax-based, with property taxes being the single largest component.
The budget also will be presented at the next City Council meeting, at 6:30 p.m. April 1 in council chambers.
