LEAF RIVER – Two school children and two drivers were taken to area hospitals Friday after a Forrestville Valley school bus collided head-on with a pickup truck northeast of Leaf River.

The children, an 11-year-old and 14-year-old, were reportedly treated for minor injuries, as was the 64-year-old bus driver. Other students were treated at the scene and released to their parents.

But the driver of the pickup, a 28-year-old man from Pecatonica, was said to have suffered serious injuries. He had to be removed from his vehicle.

Ogle County Sheriff’s Police said six children were on the bus when the crash occurred just after 3 p.m. in the 11000 block of North Pecatonica Road, about 6 miles from Leaf River.

The bus was delivering the children home from school and was stopped along the side of the road when the crash happened.
