Bridge replacement to begin today in Tampico

TAMPICO – An $876,000 project to remove and replace the drainage ditch bridge 2 miles north of Tampico on state Route 172 begins today, the Illinois Department of Transportation said in a news release.

Motorists will encounter lane closures and flaggers directing traffic this week, as work begins.

Starting March 24, the road will be closed and traffic will be diverted on to Hahnaman Road from state Route 40.

The road will be closed until the project is completed in early September, IDOT said.

Sjostrom & Sons of Rockford is doing the work.
