Vernon S. Milnes Sr.

MILLEDGEVILLE – Vernon Sidney Milnes Sr., 86, of Milledgeville, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home. He was a lifelong farmer.

Vernon was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Morrison, to Sidney and Edna (Swanson) Milnes. He married Rhea Clary on Feb. 18, 1948, in Morrison. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick.

Survivors include his wife of Milledgeville; four daughters, Peggy (Dennis) Doering of Prophetstown, Janet Compton of St. Augustine, Fla., Carol Hill of Eureka, and Sharon (Mitch) Woodard of Milledgeville; two sons, Vernon Milnes Jr. of  Fulton and Melvin (Sue) Milnes of Forreston; one brother, Virgil (Janet) Milnes of Prophetstown; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Pearl; one grandson; two sisters; one daughter-in-law; and one son-in-law.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Milledgeville. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick, with the Rev. Melwyn Alagodi, pastor, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
