Man waives jury for rape trial
WOODSTOCK (AP) – A suburban Chicago man convicted of raping a woman he met on Craigslist has waived his right to a jury trial for the next of his seven remaining sexual assault cases.
Charles R. Oliver of Woodstock is accused of raping eight women, many of them prostitutes, who responded to his online ads for sex. His attorney seeks separate trials for each case.
The Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake reports that although a jury waiver at times signify a plea deal has been reached, attorneys for Oliver and a McHenry County prosecutor wouldn’t say Thursday if a deal was reached. Oliver is scheduled to appear Monday for a status hearing
Last month, the 45-year-old Oliver was convicted of raping a 22-year-old Chicago woman he agreed to pay $200 for sex.
