Trudeau seeking less than 2 years

CHICAGO (AP) – Attorneys for Kevin Trudeau have called on a federal judge in Chicago to sentence the TV pitchman to less than 2 years in prison for a criminal contempt conviction.

The defense filing this week hit back at a sharply worded government filing calling Trudeau an “uncontrollable huckster.” Prosecutors called for at least 10 years for Trudeau for bilking consumers via infomercials.

But the defense says prosecutors’ characterizations of Trudeau are “overblown and unfair.”

It adds that Trudeau “is a man who has consistently displayed kindness” and “generosity.”

Jurors convicted Trudeau of criminal contempt in November. He was accused of violating a court order barring him from making false claims about a best-selling diet book he wrote.

Trudeau, who lives in suburban Chicago, will be sentenced March 17.
