Hockey club looking for members

Registration for the spring season of the Sauk Valley
Hockey Club ends on March 26. Registration is $45 for youth and $70 for adults. Visit or for
registration forms.

Forms can also be picked up at the Dixon Park
District office.


Registration for wood bat league

Registration is open for the Wildcats, a wood-bat baseball team based out of Morrison. Home games will be played at the Morrison Sports Complex. Away games will be at locations around the Quad Cities.

Teams will play 7-inning doubleheaders on Sunday for 12 weeks. Registration is $175, and it is due by April 15. Games begin on May 15.

Diamondbacks send Mateo back to Cubs

The Diamondbacks sent right-hander Marcos Mateo, a Rule 5 pick, back to the Cubs on Thursday.

Mateo, 29, is 1-3 with a 5.04 earned-run average in 44 major league appearances for the Cubs in 2010 and ’11.


D’Antoni: Nash out for season

Steve Nash is done for this season, 1 day after the Lakers terminated the chance for Kobe Bryant to come back before their regular-season finale.

Bryant said Thursday that he has ‘no interest’ in playing for coach Mike D’Antoni next season.


Muema decides against draft

San Diego State running back Adam Muema made headlines last month when he abruptly left the NFL Scouting Combine, claiming God told him the Seattle Seahawks would draft him if he did.

Earlier this week, Muema announced on his Twitter feed that he didn’t believe there would be an NFL season, and alluded to the world’s end.

Bail denied
for Sharper

Superior Court Judge Renee Korn ruled Thursday that Darren Sharper should remain in jail without bail after authorities this week indicted the Super Bowl champion on charges that he drugged and sexually assaulted two women in Tempe, Ariz., in November.
