I am a candidate for the Republican nomination for Ogle County sheriff on the March 18 primary ballot.
I have been a lifelong resident of Ogle County and a fifth-generation resident of the county. My wife, Marla (McLaughlin), and I have been married for 18 years, and we have two children, a freshman and senior at Rochelle Township High School.
My qualifications include a degree in business, and I will complete a second degree in public administration, with a minor in emergency management, this spring.
I also have 13 years of management experience in the private sector. Those responsibilities included budgeting, inventory controls, scheduling, personnel and training.
I am currently a K-9 officer and have significant experience and knowledge with the crimes that affect this county. Also, as an employee with the city of Rochelle, I was tasked with the bidding process for vehicle purchases as well as bidding contracts for vehicle maintenance.
Additionally, as an elected member of the Rochelle High School Board of Education, I help oversee a budget in excess of $14 million.
If elected, my first 4 years will include the implementation of my Zero Cost Initiatives. These initiatives include the Countywide Street Crimes Unit. This new unit will be used to develop working relationships with all county law enforcement agencies as well as regional agencies.
This group of highly motivated deputies and officers will be our frontline in combating drug use, drug sales, gang crimes, and property crimes related to those issues. All law enforcement agencies within the county will be included to share resources and knowledge and reduce crime in our neighborhoods.
The second Zero Cost Initiative involves returning deputies to our communities, not focusing on traffic enforcement on Interstate 39. While there is a time and place for traffic enforcement, I believe the taxpayers would better served to have deputies in our community as opposed to sitting on I-39.
The difference between the current structure and my vision is the location of this enforcement.
My third Zero Cost Initiative involves bringing deputies into the schools. By providing this resource, our schools will be safer, and our children will learn lifelong lessons from those professionals. Deputies will provide a resource for school security issues and be used by school staff for education purposes.
I see this contact as a vitally important aspect of community policing. I want the deputies involved in the community to provide helpful knowledge and instruction.
My fourth Zero Cost Initiative will be to develop an Ogle County Alliance. This alliance will bring many different elected officials, property owners, business members, and clergy together to solve the problems we face as a community.
The cooperation will make for a successful community in many ways. This alliance allows for open lines of communication with all entities within this county. Communication is the key for the success of this county, and I will facilitate this working relationship.
Additionally, I will re-establish working relationships with the fire districts, townships, villages, and cities.
