Elect Simonton as Lee sheriff

Published: Friday, March 14, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

I endorse John Simonton for Lee County sheriff. I had the privilege to work alongside Simonton for more than 20 years, and I can say, without a doubt, he is one of the finest officers of the law whom I have ever met.

His passion and drive for excellence is an inspiration to everyone he comes in contact with. John’s extensive training has been a benefit to all who worked with him, as he is a born leader and teacher.

His enthusiasm is contagious, and throughout his career, he has been an example for all to follow who are involved with law enforcement.

Lee County residents will be fortunate to have a sheriff of this caliber, and I want to encourage all eligible voters to cast their votes for John Simonton.

Note to readers: Jeff Bain is a retired captain with the Illinois State Police.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
