Erin Ansusinha, 18, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s February Students of the Month. Her parents are Mardi and Larry Ybarra, and her siblings are Emily Ansusinha, 23, of Wake Forest, N.C., Allyson Ansusinha, 21, of Chicago, and Alec Ansusinha, 19, of Columbus, Ohio.
Favorite class: Publications, because it’s the one class during my day that I get to really use my creativity in designing our school’s yearbook and newspapers.
Top teacher: Jessica Smith, AP Statistics. She really expresses concern for her students and the grades they earn. AP Stats is sometimes difficult, but she helps us find ways to understand and encourages us more than any of my other teachers to come and ask for help. I don’t think I’ve ever been more willing to do homework than I am for this class. I hope all my college professors get me to be this enthusiastic about schoolwork.
Extracurriculars: I am the president of Student Council, a member of National Honor Society, and an Illinois State Scholar.
After graduation: I plan to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, or Augustana College in Rock Island.
Paycheck: I work at FunJump! My mom owns it. I do like working there, because since my mom is my boss, she’s flexible with when I can and can’t work, and my coworkers are the absolute best.
Best friends: Aida Juarez and Charli Wike
Favorite singer or musical group: I have too many favorites to choose just one!
Favorite actor: Morgan Freeman
Favorite TV shows: “Gossip Girl” and “Grey’s Anatomy”
Hobbies: Soccer, tennis, writing, piano
Favorite game or outdoor activity: Tennis
Favorite food: Chili
Biggest fear: Getting in a car crash
Least favorite class: Government, because Mr. Preston picks on me every single day.
What makes your blood boil? When people chew loud or breathe loud when they’re chewing.
What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Mexican music
Favorite hangouts? My house, any food places, or any of my friend’s houses. They’re just places to chill and relax.
High school survival guide: Stay chill about everything, and try not to panic about every little thing, because everything passes and life goes on.
Useless knowledge: Everything in geometry
I’m in the dictionary next to: Outgoing, maybe? Because I just like being nice and socializing with anybody.
Dream job: If I were given the smarts and skills just for that day to do it, brain surgeon.
Trading places: With Kendall Jenner, because she gets to go to so many cool places. I would definitely go on a tropical vacation with all of my friends.
Trading spaces: Phuket, Thailand. It is the prettiest place in the world! The water is so blue and clear, and the fish swim up against your legs. It’s awesome.
Read this: “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was fun to visualize the extravagant parties and mischievous things all the characters would do.
Shout out to: My two nieces in town, Isabel and Ella Green, and their baby brother Isaac (just in case your mom shows you the paper)! Love you guys!
