24 Jake Rod 5-11 F Sr.

33 Sam Bowne 6-5 C Sr.

44 Tyler Anderson 6-4 C Jr.

45 Patrick O'Sadnick 6-4 C Jr.

Mendota FYI: The Trojans finished third in a tough BNC West behind Rockford Lutheran and Winnebago. A year ago, the Trojans entered the 3A Rock Falls Regional as the No. 4 seed and ended up winning the regional title.

Outlook: The Trojans beat the Dukes by three points in only regular-season meeting. Both teams get big contributions from juniors, meaning it is likely the two could meet against next year in an important game in the postseason. The matchup is interesting, as both squads like to pick up the pace, so a high-scoring affair could be in store.

SVM prediction: Dixon 71-66

Winner to: Bradley Sectional vs. Peoria Manual Regional winner, 7 p.m. Wednesday

IC Catholic Knights

Coach: T.J. Tyrell

Conference: Suburban Christian Conference

Last sectional title: None

Roster

No. Name Ht. Pos. Yr.

1 Ross Fleming 5-9 G Sr.

2 Stone Brinkman 5-8 G Jr.

3 Andy Muno 5-11 G Sr.

4 Anthony Taylor 5-10 G. Sr.

5 Sean Sutton 5-10 G Sr.

11 Tremaine Griffin 5-9 G Sr.

12 Will Lyles 6-3 C So.

20 Rhashaun Epting 6-3 F So.

21 Alec Turkowski 6-1 Sr. F

22 Troy Burrows 5-9 So. G

23 Clark Brinkman 6-3 Sr. F/G

24 Russ Ryan 6-0 Sr. G

32 Jordan Rowell 6-2 Fr. F/G

33 Conor Daly 6-2 Sr. F

IC Catholic FYI: Clark Brinkman scored 24 points in helping the Knights to a 65-63 OT win over Winnebago in the sectional semifinal. The Knights have won only four regional titles in the last 30 years, with two of them coming in 2007 and 2008.

Outlook: The Comets are looking to make first 2A supersectional just 2 years after advancing to that round in 1A. The Knights had to rally to get by Winnebago in overtime, a team the Comets beat at the Forreston tournament. Newman will be the favorites, but IC Catholic is too dangerous to look past.

SVM prediction: Newman 62-58

Winner to: DeKalb Supersectional vs. Olympia Sectional winner, 8 p.m. Tuesday

1A River Ridge Sectional

Eastland Cougars (25-4) vs. Indian Creek Timberwolves (22-8)

When: 7 p.m. today

Eastland Cougars

Coach: Tony Dunlap

Conference: NUIC West

Last sectional title: 2013

Roster

No. Name Ht. Pos. Yr.

1 Skylar Barncord 5-2 G Sr.

2 Eric Schaney 5-10 F Jr.

10 Tyler Dambman 5-6 G Fr.

11 Adam Hardy 5-6 G Jr.

12 Josh Hayag 5-7 G Jr.

15 Caleb McLain 6-1 C So.

20 Brighton Haverland 6-4 F Fr.

21 Valdet Seferi 5-11 F Sr.

23 Dalton Shaner 6-0 G Sr.

25 Tyler McLain 5-11 F Jr.

32 Skylar Paulson 6-2 C Sr.

34 Devin Hartman 5-11 G Sr.

43 Marshall Fink 6-2 F Sr.

45 Jacob Reuscher 5-9 F Jr.

50 Blake Janssen 6-5 C So.

Eastland FYI: For the second season in a row, Dalton Shaner is getting hot at the right time. The senior guard has 30 or more points in each of the last two games, and seems to improve as the pressure increases.

Indian Creek Timberwolves

Coach:
Joe Piekarz

Conference: Little Ten

Last sectional title: 1990 (as Shabbona)

Roster

No. Name Ht. Pos. Yr.

5 Drew Winterton 5-10 G Jr.

10 Jeff Taylor 5-7 G Sr.

11 Taylor Johnson 5-10 G Sr.

12 Kenny Harper 5-11 G Sr.

14 Jake Wiesler 5-10 G Jr.

20 Stephen Muetze 6-0 G Sr.

22 Kooper Gordon 5-8 G Jr.

23 Nick Baldwin 6-1 G Sr.

25 Noah Holm 5-10 G Sr.

30 Garrett Post 6-5 F Sr.

33 David Boehne 6-2 F Jr.

34 Cory Bradford 6-4 F Jr.

44 Mike Armstrong 6-2 F Jr.

50 Drew Diehl 5-10 G Jr.

55 Garrison Govig 6-9 C Jr.

Indian Creek FYI: The school has not won a sectional title since Waterman and Shabbona merged in the early 1990s. The Wolves were inconsistent early in the season, but they have won their last nine games in a row.

Outlook: The Wolves are very strong in the post, with senior Garrett Post and junior Garrison Govig. Expect Eastland to put Skylar Paulson on one and sophomore Blake Janssen on the other. The key will be if Eastland's Dalton Shaner can continue to excel, and possibly get the big guys in foul trouble by driving into the lane.

SVM prediction: Eastland 70-69

Winner to: DeKalb Supersectional vs. Serena Sectional winner, 6 p.m. Tuesay, March. 11
