DES PLAINES (AP) — Nurses at a psychiatric hospital in suburban Chicago have filed an intent to strike notice as negotiations with management continue.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1q1j5yU ) nurses at the Maryville Behavioral Health Hospital in Des Plaines voted to authorize a strike last week and have filed a notice with the National Labor Relations Board.

Talks are continuing between management and the nurses, who are represented by the Illinois Nurses Association. The union represents 24 nurses at the hospital.

John Gorman is a spokesman for Maryville Academy. He tells The Associated Press that the two sides met Monday with a federal mediator for about six hours without reaching a contract agreement and talks will continue Friday. Gorman says management hopes negotiations "lead to a successful settlement and no strike."
