Amboy man arrested for harassing witness

AMBOY – An Amboy man charged in 2011 with aggravated criminal sexual abuse was arrested Monday for contacting a witness in the pending criminal trial against him, Dixon police said.

Nikos M. Kastrinsios, 42, was charged with bribery and harassment of a witness, both class 2 felonies. He was arrested by Dixon police, with assistance from Amboy police, about 7 p.m. Monday in the downtown Amboy business district.

Dixon police said in a news release that they were alerted in late February to the fact that Kastrinsios had tried to persuade the witness not to testify at trial. Police said Kastrinsios offered the witness an undisclosed amount of money.

Kastrinsios was taken to Lee County Jail, where his bond will be set. Formerly of Dixon, Kastrinsios spent more than 2 years in Lee County Jail on child pornography and aggravated sex abuse charges before being freed when he posted $1,000 bond on June 18, 2013.

He was arrested Jan. 21, 2011. His bond, originally $50,000, was reduced to $10,000 in April 2011. A motion to further reduce his bond was denied June 13.

Police say that Kastrinsios had oral sex with a boy younger than 17 in December 2010, and that a search of his home turned up child pornography. At the time, Kastrinsios owned a restaurant in Dixon.

Kastrinsios is scheduled for a status hearing in the sexual abuse case on March 11.
