DIXON – United Way of Lee County topped its $400,000 goal by more than $8,000 during the recently concluded annual campaign.

Volunteers gathered Saturday with representatives of local businesses and nonprofit agencies at the Posthouse to celebrate the $408,203 that was pledged during the campaign. The celebration had been postponed earlier because of bad weather.

United Way board President Chad Nicklaus honored retiring board member Tom Wadsworth with the Outstanding Board Member Award. Wadsworth, who joined United Way of Lee County in 1987, has been campaign chairman (1989-90) and board president (1991-92), in addition to directing the work of many committees. He was honored as the Volunteer of the Year in 2002.

Board Secretary/Treasurer Cathy Jecklin was named Volunteer of the Year. Jecklin returned to the United Way board to be secretary/treasurer in addition to being the agency’s liaison with several area companies.

Do It Best Corp. received the Corporate Spirit Award again for its efforts to encourage employees to contribute to their community. In addition to supporting the annual United Way campaign, Do It Best supports 21 Lee County agencies and organizations.
