Charles A. Connell

FRANKLIN GROVE – Charles A. Connell, 94, of Franklin Grove, formerly of West Brooklyn, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Franklin Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.

Charles was born July 29, 1919, in Orland Park, to James and Susan (Drauden) Connell. He grew up and attended school in Plainfield at Caton Farm. He later moved to Sugar Grove and then Princeton, farming in both places. In 1967, he moved to West Brooklyn, where he also farmed.

He married Marjorie Duffy in October 1974, in Sterling. He and his wife retired to the Meadows Retirement Home in Franklin Grove. He was a member of St. Mary Church in West Brooklyn.

Survivors include his wife of Franklin Grove; one sister, Mary Rehmeyer of Oak Forest; one nephew, James (Dottie) Connell of Minooka; one great-nephew, Kyle Connell of Morris; one brother-in-law, James Duffy of Bradenton, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Marian Connell of Plainfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Connell; one brother-in-law, Roy Rehmeyer; and one nephew, James Rehmeyer.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary Church in West Brooklyn, with the Rev. Joel Lopez officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Mendota. Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Rock River Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
