Simonton for Lee sheriff

Published: Saturday, March 1, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

I first met John Simonton when he applied and was hired for the position of patrol deputy for the Boone County Sheriff’s Department in 1982.

As a lieutenant for the sheriff’s department, my duties included supervision for both the patrol and investigations section. Evaluating John’s performance during my tenure, [I believe] he proved himself dedicated, efficient and resourceful. He continually took that “extra effort” when following up on whatever call he received.

After John was hired by the Illinois State Police, both John and I became instructors and operators for the Tactical Response Teams.

John’s dedication and devotion to law enforcement has always been foremost. His knowledge and understanding of the principles of law and tireless efforts in his duties, whether training or operational, have always been his prime objective.

Note to readers: Joseph Rollins is a retired lieutenant with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and retired master sergeant with the Illinois State Police.
