Benefits of herbal drinks discussed

STERLING – A number of events are scheduled this month at the Whiteside County Senior Center, 1207 W. Ninth St.

■ A Tea and Tisane presentation will be at 11 a.m. Monday Carol Conner, University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener. She will talk about tasty weeds. The presentation will include the healing benefits and helpful properties of herbal teas and samples.

■ The center will be the site of a Mardi Gras party at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Participants will find out facts about New Orleans and the history of Mardi Gras. Beads will be given out and traditional recipes will be served at lunch.

■ Cooking with herbs by Natalie Rodakowski, nutrition educator, and a food demonstration by Linda Whitmer, both of the extension, will be at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. The presentation will include samples.

■ At 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nathan Fellows will give a technology project presentation. The program will cover Project: Tech, an initiative to help those who are underutilizing technology. Those who would like to know how to use their own technology ­ cell phones, smartphones, and computers ­ are welcome.

■ Beth Sterk from Whiteside Homecare will do a bath safety presentation at 11 a.m. March 14. The program will explain how seniors can bathe safely in their own home with some simple safety awareness and the help of assistive equipment.

■ Also on March 14, a free Medicare information class will be at 1:30 p.m. The basic information provided will help community members who are new to Medicare and those who want more information on Medicare options. Call 815-622-9230 to register.
