Percussion contest set for Rock Falls

ROCK FALLS – Percussion-Palooza, a solo and ensemble competition by middle school, high school, and post-secondary percussionists, will be March 2 at Rock Falls High School, 102 12th Ave.

The program will start at 1 p.m. The top three preliminary performances in each category at each level will receive awards. Individual champions will be announced, and will perform at 5 p.m. at the Premier Showcase in the high school gymnasium. The Knights Alumni Drum Line and Rhythm-Quest Performance Ensemble also will perform.

Guest percussionists and clinicians are Kevin Donka, the 2013 Drum Corps Associates solo snare drum champion, and Washboard Jo, a washboardist, songwriter, singer, and entertainer. Donka also will judge performances.

There is no cost to compete. Visit www.rhythm-quest.org for entry forms and more information. Spectators can attend for $5 for adults, $3 for children, and free for children 5 and younger.
