PEARLAND, Texas – James Calvin Vercher, 81, of Pearland, formerly of Prophetstown, passed away Sunday, Feb.16, 2014.

He was born June 19, 1932, in Crandall, Texas, to Joseph and Juanita Vercher. James proudly served our country in the Texas Air National Guard, and retired as Chief Master Sgt. with 39 years of service. James attended Zion Lutheran Church in Pasadena, Texas. He lived in Pearland for 1 1/2 years.

James is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Elaine K. Vercher; daughers, Sheri Keyes and Dawn Oliver; sons, Steven Keyes, David H. (Barbara Burwell) Schuett, Brian (Becky) Schuett, and Bruce (Pamela Tokerud) Schuett; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Tommy Joe Vercher.

The funeral was Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Pasadena. Graveside services were at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made in James’ name to Wounded Warriors.
