Prophets upset Storm

Newman’s pulls ahead of BV in TRAC North

Chris Bauer scored 19 points to lead Prophetstown to a 60-51 victory against Bureau Valley on Tuesday in Prophetstown.

Grant Ames added 14 points for the Prophets (11-13, 6-5).

Tommy Johnston led the Storm (17-9, 9-2) with 19 points, and David Miller added 14.

Sycamore 79, Sterling 49: Sterling Thornton scored 13, and Joe Brouilette added nine for the Golden Warriors (6-11) in a road loss to the Spartans.

Devin Mottet led Sycamore with 17 points.

Byron 79, Rock Falls 63: Daniel Lowe scored 35 points for the Tigers, as the Rockets fell in a BNC West game in Byron.

Rock Falls (5-16) got 16 points from Austin Donoho and Jacob Mammosser. Logan Pillars added 11 points.

Winnebago 67, Oregon 51: The Hawks (4-19, 0-9 BNC West) lost a conference game on the road to the Indians (19-4, 8-1).

Newman 50, Erie 34: The Cardinals kept it close, but the Comets earned a Three Rivers North win in Erie.

John Payan and Nolan McGinn both scored 10 points for Newman (23-2, 11-1).

Ken Cole scored 16 points for Erie (2-22, 1-10).

Morrison 63, Riverdale 50: Mason Sitzmore paced a balanced attack with 16 points as the Mustangs handled the Rams in Port Byron.

Also for Morrison (11-15, 7-5 Three Rivers North), Kaleb Church had 15 points, and Bill Greul added 14.

Chris Kosminsky led Riverdale with 11 points.

Fulton 69, Amboy 55: Matt Dail poured in 24 points to lead the Steamers to a road win over the Clippers.

Also for Fulton (19-6, 8-3 Three Rivers North), Zach Barber had 13 points, and Kyle Huebner added 12.

Damon Quest led Amboy with 26 points, and Skyler Wheeler added 13.

AFC 81, Hiawatha 48: The Raiders ran away from the Indians by outscoring them 29-7 in the second quarter in Ashton.

Troy Mairs paced AFC (10-13) with 17 points to pass 1,000 points for his career. Matt Gendusa had 15 points, while Bret Gittleson and David Zinke each scored 10 points.

Eastland 74, Galena 45: Dalton Shaner scored 24 points in Lanark, as the Cougars remained undefeated in the NUIC West.

Blake Janssen scored 13 points, and Valdet Seferi added 10 for Eastland (19-3, 11-0).

Lena-Winslow 44, Polo 41: Brian Cavanaugh led the Marcos with 15 points in a road loss to the Panthers.

Also for Polo (20-5), AJ Dollmeyer scored 12 points.

Ben Moest had 11 points for Lena-Winslow (9-12).

Milledgeville 54, Pearl City 46: Jordan Harris hit four 3-pointers and scored 17 points, as the Missiles won a NUIC crossover game in Pearl City.

Caleb Skoog had 12 points, and Blake Kappes and Lucas Ebersole both scored seven for the Missiles (17-4).

Forreston 86, West Carroll 62: Trevor Jones scored 30 points for the Thunder, but it wasn't enough to prevent a home loss to the Cardinals.

Travis Hartman added 11 points for West Carroll (3-16).

Wyatt Kerchner and Caleb Reining each scored 21 points for Forreston (8-13).

Faith Christian 44, Rivermont 24: Isaac Schuler had 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Falcons to a victory in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Also for the Faith Christian (5-11), Andrew Robertson, Ben Bierdeman and Hayden Sweet each scored seven points.

Men's basketball

Sauk Valley 90, Kishwaukee 78: Carlos Hendrix poured in 30 points to lead the Skyhawks to a home win over the Kougars.

Also for Sauk Valley (13-12, 5-4 Arrowhead), Tramel Rideout had 20 points and nine rebounds, while John Murphy added 13 points and 10 boards.

Boys swimming

Ottawa 101, Newman 22: Warren Melton took second in the 60 freestyle (28.26 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.1) for the Comets in a road loss to the Pirates.

Also finishing second in events for Newman were Aiden Bollman in the 200 freestyle (2:16.12) and Andrew Schmitt in the 160 IM (2:04.91).
