PEORIA (AP) — Illinois American Water says water is safe that's flowing to homes and businesses affected by a large water-main break.
The utility says it tested water in the area Tuesday and found it meets federal safety standards. Customers who had service restored in the hours after the main broke on Monday were initially told to boil their water.
Service has been restored to all but a small handful of the several thousand homes, businesses, schools and other facilities that lost water Monday after the break.
But the utility says work continues to repair the break northeast of downtown Peoria.
Illinois American blamed the break in the 70-year-old main on its age and the cold weather.
