Missiles shoot down Bulldogs

Milledgeville rallies from 19-point deficit to snap Aquin’s win streak

The Milledgeville Missiles struggled without four starters in the first quarter Saturday night, but they more than made up for it later on in a 72-69 victory over the Aquin Bulldogs.

After trailing 29-10 after the opening 8 minutes, the Missiles (16-4, 6-3 NUIC East) fired on all cylinders the rest of the way. They outscored the Bulldogs (18-4, 8-1) 44-23 in the next two quarters to take a 54-52 lead heading into the fourth, then held on down the stretch.

Caleb Skoog hit six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points for Milledgeville, while Blake Kappes, Jordan Harris and Lucas Ebersole each scored 12. Harris dished four assists, Kappes had four rebounds and two steals, and Kameron DawTyne chipped in six points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Aiden Chang hit five 3s and scored 20 points, and Micah Stovall had 18 for Aquin, which saw its 31-game conference win streak snapped.

Mendota 68, Oregon 49: The Hawks led 30-26 at halftime, but were outscored 42-19 after the break in a Big Northern West loss at the Blackhawk Center.

Jessie McKinley had 13 points for Oregon (4-18, 0-8), and Billy Heeg and Trevor Otten scored 12 points each.

James Carroll's game-high 22 points paced the Trojans (15-6, 4-2), while Ryan Reeder added 17 and Sam Bowne chipped in 15.

Prophetstown 56, Riverdale 39: Chris Bauer poured in 20 points, and the Prophets led from the get-go in a Three Rivers North home victory.

Josh Sigel scored 10 points, and Grant Ames added eight for Prophetstown (10-13, 5-5), which led 13-6 after one quarter and 24-14 at halftime before putting the game away with a 20-10 scoring edge in the third.

Jake Bussert's nine points paced the Rams (7-18, 3-8).

AFC 69, Forreston 65: The Raiders outscored the Cardinals 38-23 in the middle two periods of an NUIC East win in Ashton.

Bret Gittleson's 30 points led AFC (9-13, 4-5), and included five 3-pointers and an 11-for-12 performance at the free-throw line. Tory Mairs chipped in 18.

Robert DeVries scored 21 for Forreston (7-13, 3-6).

Eastland 56, Illini West 54: The Cougars outscored Illini West 18-11 in the fourth quarter to pull out a victory at the Superfans Shootout in Quincy.

Dalton Shaner scored 31 points for Eastland (18-3), and hit all 10 of his free throws. Blake Janssen added eight points.

Braden Bennett had 17 for the Chargers (9-12).

Men's basketball

Kennedy-King 77, Sauk Valley 58: The Skyhawks jumped out a 20-2 lead, only to give it all back and then some in a loss to the Statesmen in Chicago.

Carlos Hendrix led Sauk Valley (12-12) with 14 points and five steals. David Newton and Jeff Casseus each scored 10 points, John Murphy and Jacoby Posley each had nine points, and Tramel Rideout added seven rebounds and six points.

Kenneth Lockhart led Kennedy-King with 24 points, and Joshua Freeman added 18.
