New website nabs honors

POLO – The Blackhawk Waterways Convention & Visitors Bureau website won the Illinois Governor’s Award of Excellence Feb. 4 at the 2014 Illinois Governor’s Conference on Travel & Tourism in Chicago.

The bureau covers Lee, Ogle, Whiteside, and Carroll counties,

The site, visitnorthwestillinois.com, features outdoor activities, history, dining, arts, and rural culture of the four-county Blackhawk Waterways region of Northwest Illinois.

It was named the state’s best website among Illinois tourism groups with a yearly budget of less than $700,000.

Judges selected the website based on design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copy writing, and ease of use. The site was developed in conjunction with TDG Communications.

Sterling counselor earns recognition

STERLING – Robert Hawkins, certified insurance counselor, of Hawkins-Cassens Insurance LLC of Sterling, recently was recognized for professional leadership and advanced knowledge by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. The group is a national insurance profession organization.

He has been a designated CIC for more than 15 years, by completing required advanced education and training.
