Plow truck hits, kills woman in northeast Illinois

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 4:00 p.m. CST

BARRINGTON (AP) — Authorities in northeast Illinois' Lake County say a pedestrian was killed when she was backed into by a snowplow truck being used to clear a hospital parking lot.

Sheriff's investigators were withholding the name of the woman killed in the accident about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in Barrington, pending the notification of her relatives.

Authorities say the operator of the pickup truck with a snowplow attachment was working in heavy snowfall and limited visibility when he hit the woman outside the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The driver and the woman both worked at the hospital.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
