Kudos to real estate group for donations

Published: Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

The Whiteside County Regional Office of Education thanks the kindness and generosity of the Sauk Valley Association of Realtors for their donation of winter items, including hats, gloves, and scarves.

The ROE provides services for at-risk students, as well as working with homeless students and their families.

We work with nine school districts in Whiteside County and currently serve approximately 120 students through the Truants’ Alternative Program, and more than 200 homeless students. Our families are often in need of these items, especially at this time of the year.

Keeping kids safe and warm so they can attend school every day is made easier with the thoughtful gestures from businesses such as the Sauk Valley Realtors.

Note to readers: Robert Sondgeroth is the regional superintendent.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
