Published: Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

MOUNT MORRIS – A benefit will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday for a Mount Morris school bus driver battling cancer of the esophagus.

Bill “Hutchie” Huskins, 54, who was diagnosed in November, cannot drive now because of the disease, said Sheri Miller, a friend of Huskins’s.

“He has a significant other, Rose Weems,” Miller said. “He has no kids.”

The benefit, which will raise money for expenses, will be at the Mount Morris Moose Lodge, 101 Moose Drive. No admission will be charged. A pasta bar will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. for $5.

Activities will include a bake sale; live auction, featuring a trip to Las Vegas and a bar stool donated by Budweiser, a silent auction, with various baskets, a quilt that folds into a pillow, and other items, and a 50/50 drawing, with tickets for $1 each or $5 for six.

DJ Clark Ferris, Dan Elsasser and the band Going Postal, and John Sabaduqia will provide music.

For more information, call the lodge at 815-734-4161 or Keith Avey at 815-973-1490.
