STERLING – Dorothy J. Norberg was born into eternal life Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014.

Dorothy was born March 19, 1929, on St. Joseph Day, in Hurley, Wis., the eldest sibling of five born to John and Felicia (Wolowinski) Stremski. She attended St. Mary Grade School and J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley. She attended St. Scholastica Catholic Girls College in Duluth, Minn. In 1948, Dorothy traveled to North Dakota, and taught in a one-room school house with 21 children and eight grades in attendance. She met Floyd Norberg in Butte, N.D., and married him on June 25, 1949, at St. Mary Church in Hurley.

Dorothy was very active at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling, from teaching CCD to being on the liturgical commission. She was very humbled to be the first woman lector at the church. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, who all participated in the liturgy of the church, from music, lector, usher, altar boys and girl, Eucharistic minister, and CCD teacher.

Dorothy enjoyed life on the farm, raising produce with grandchildren, in addition to field crops of corn and beans. She enjoyed teaching the grandchildren at an early age at “grandma’s college” before they went to kindergarden.

She is survived by her four children, Mike, Mary Jo (Robert) Sigel, John, and Patricia; five grandchildren, Joseph, Kathleen, Christopher (Kerri), Clayton (Laura), and Matthew (Justina); three great-grandchildren, Jimi, Liliana, and Dean; three sisters, Gloria Fillion, Phyllis Slade, and Carol Sybeldon; and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews who have been very kind to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd, on their 58th wedding anniversary; her brother, Father John Stremski; and several special in-laws.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday and celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Sterling. McDonald Funeral Homes are handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Church in Sterling and St. Mary Church in Tampico.
