Newman double-booked for today
The Newman wrestling team and boys basketball team will have varsity contests at home today.
The wrestling meet against Lena-Winslow will start at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym.
The fresh/soph boys basketball team will play its game against Morrison in the practice gym at 5:30. The varsity game against the Mustangs will take place in the main gym after the conclusion of the wrestling meet.
Cardinals knock off Missiles
Kameron DawTyne had 14 points, and Jordan Harris added 12 as Milledgeville (14-3, 5-2 NUIC East) fell 65-49 to the visiting Forreston Cardinals.
Forreston (7-9, 3-3) was paced by Wyatt Kerchner with 14 points, Robert DeVries with 13, and Kaleb Reining and Nathan Schneiderman with 10 each.
Rivera gets 3-year extension
Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera signed a 3-year contract extension through the 2017 season.
Under Rivera, the Panthers’ record has improved in each of the last three seasons, including a 12-4 mark and NFC South title in 2013.
Martin says he’s leaving Dolphins
Jonathan Martin is talking about leaving the Miami Dolphins, and NBC has the interview.
Martin gave an exclusive interview Tuesday to Tony Dungy of NBC’s “Football Night in America.” The chat will air tonight on “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams,” and on Wednesday’s “Today.” Dungy will be on “Today” to discuss the interview.
In a short portion on “Nightly News,” Martin said he had heard vulgar language in locker rooms, but he was bothered by the persistence of it with the Dolphins.
League approves padded caps
Major League Baseball announced that it has approved the use of padded caps to protect pitchers from hard-hit balls.
All 30 teams were informed Tuesday morning of the decision after consulting with the league’s players union. Use of the caps is optional.
Authories drop charges against Puig
Florida authorities have dropped a reckless-driving charge against Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, the state attorney’s office announced Tuesday.
Puig was arrested last month after his Mercedes-Benz was clocked traveling 110 mph in a 70-mph zone.
