Milton D. Miller

DIXON – Milton Dean Miller, 90, of Dixon, formerly of Franklin Grove, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He farmed for many years in Franklin Grove and Milledgeville. Milton also was a truck driver for Ray Forney. Later, he moved to Brandenton, Fla., where he worked at Mixon Fruit Co.

He was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Amboy, the son of Howard M. and Ruby L. (Smith) Miller. Milton loved a good time, especially dancing. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Amboy Lodge for 50 years; a paid up life member of the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rule of Valley of Freeport; Dixon Moose Lodge since 1982; and a member of the Methodist church in Franklin Grove.

Survivors include his special friend and companion, Helen Griffith of Dixon; one sister, Audrey Beggs of Rockford; two stepdaughters, Billie Jo Crofton and Jeri Lynn (Larry) Herwig, both of Franklin Grove; several stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, Earl Beggs.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Vincent O. Marrandino, director of pastoral care at KSB Hospital in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center.

Memorials have been established to Heritage Square in Dixon and Franklin Grove Fire Department.
