MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Dorothy Jane (Scully) Rowley, age 88, born Oct. 26, 1925 in Harmon.

Jane was met at heaven’s gate on Jan. 20, 2014, by husband of 26 years Lloyd L. Rowley and parents George and Mary Scully. Also greeted by little brother Georgie Raymond Scully, who became an angel on his sixth birthday 1934.

Graduated from Amboy High School in 1943 and from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Rockford in 1946. Was a WAVE cadet nurse and was immediately hired by the Polio Foundation during the polio epidemic. She met Lloyd from Red Wing, Minn., the ticket agent for Greyhound, on her daily bus taking her from Rockford to Highland Hospital in Belvidere.

They were married on Oct. 30, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Church in Ohio and moved to Milwaukee in 1950, because Lloyd was the assistant manager of the new Greyhound bus depot. Lloyd opened Travel and Tour Service on North Third Street in 1958. Jane managed the home so he could run the business and travel, but upon his sudden death in 1974, she became vice president of Travel and Tour Service until she sold it in 1978.

Devoted wife and mother to three children and the neighborhood nurse to a frequent parade of sick or injured children on the back porch for a Band-Aid or advice. Homework and music were the daily routine. All her children and grandchildren played musical instruments or sang. Gracious audience member for countless musical and theater programs for her children and grandchildren from preschool to college.

Active member of Mother of Perpetual Help Parish and St. Phillip Neri, Milwaukee, St. Robert Parish, Shorewood, Wis. Officer in the St. Robert’s Senior Group. Will be sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Also by the Legion of Mary, Lady of the Smile Praesidium whom she served for many years as president and secretary. Said the rosary daily and prayed for everyone’s intentions.

Loving mother of David Lee Rowley, Milwaukee, Mary Jane Gallo (Donald), Shorewood, Joan Marie Barrett (Michael), Toledo, Ohio; proud grandmother of Shana Rowley (Bradley Lambrecht), Sheboygan, Wis., Monica Rowley, Chicago, Jessica Barrett, Michael Barrett Jr., and Monica Barrett, Toledo, Paul Gallo, Washington D.C., Julie and Joseph Gallo, Shorewood; cherished great-grandmother of Wyatt Rowley-Lambrecht, Sheboygan. Survived by dear sister, Geraldine Voy (Harold), Rockford, and loving brother, John Thomas Scully (Gayle), Harmon.

She would tell you, be kind and pray the rosary. May God give you … for every storm, a rainbow, for every tear, a smile, for every prayer, an answer.

Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the rosary recited at 7, at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, and at 9 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ohio, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

Memorials to the family for Masses at The Basilica of Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary, St. Robert’s, Immaculate Conception, and donations to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital.
