On Jan. 7, a pipe broke on the sprinkler system and flooded the third and second floors at St. Mary's School. As you may recall, it was a bitterly cold day.
The fire alarm went off, and the Sterling Fire Department arrived. There was water everywhere. The Rock Falls Fire Department also was called and arrived to help.
These men stayed at St. Mary's for several hours, pushing the water down the stairwells and out of the building. Did they have to do this? No. I am sure their help avoided more damage to the building.
Thank you to the Sterling and Rock Falls fire departments for going above and beyond.
