Area sheriffs to give scholarships

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association will award more than $53,000 in college scholarships to students who are permanent residents of the state.

The ISA scholarships are for tuition, books, and fees only. The student must be enrolled full time during the 2014-15 school year, excluding the summer session, at a certified institution in the state.

Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson will give a scholarship of $500 to a student living in the county. Applications are available at or at the sheriff’s office Monday through Fridays at 700 S. Main St., Princeton. They should be returned to Thompson at 22 Park Ave. West or the Main Street address. Call 815-875-3344 for more information.

Lee County Sheriff John Varga also will award a $500 scholarship. applications are available at or the Lee County Sheriff’s office, 306 S. Hennepin Ave., Dixon. They should be returned to the sheriff’s office.

All applications must be completed in full, an essay question answered, and turned in by March 15.
