PEORIA (AP) — A former Illinois congressman who once led the U.S. Department of Transportation is joining a law firm as a senior policy adviser.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1dv80Mq ) Ray LaHood is joining DLA Piper.
The longtime congressman who represented Peoria from 1994 until 2008 isn't a lawyer. But the Republican says he'll be working to help clients figure out "how to implement good policy through good planning and strategic planning."
Still, LaHood won't be a lobbyist and says he won't call his former colleagues "asking for meetings."
LaHood's been busy since leaving the Obama administration last summer. He has a book on bipartisanship being published this spring and is lecturing at Bradley University, his alma mater.
LaHood was U.S. Transportation Secretary from 2009 until 2013.
