Grenoble signs with Rock Valley
Taylor Grenoble, a senior at Milledgeville and a member of the Missiles’ 2013 state championship softball team, signed a national letter of intent to continue playing softball at Rock Valley College on Saturday.
Grenoble, a second baseman, had a .458 batting average, scored 31 runs and drove in 25 runs for the Missiles last year as a junior.
Sharapova ousted in fourth round
MELBOURNE, Australia – Two-time defending champion Victoria Azarenka saw another of her main adversaries crash out of the Australian Open on Monday, while top-ranked Rafael Nadal and Wimbledon champion Andy Murray faced tougher-than-expected matches to advance to the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park.
Maria Sharapova joined Serena Williams as fourth-round casualties, leaving Azarenka a potentially easier run to the women’s final. Sharapova was beaten by No. 20 Dominika Cibulkova in the match in Rod Laver Arena immediately before Azarenka defeated Sloane Stephens, the last remaining American in the singles draw.
Bowman suffers torn ACL, MCL
An MRI on San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman revealed he suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee.
ESPN.com reported Bowman will have surgery to repair the ACL, but the MCL should heal without an operation.
Bowman is expected to be ready for the start of the 2014 season.
Extra points could be thing of past
Commissioner Roger Goodell said there is a proposal under consideration to eliminate the normally routine point-after attempts.
One proposal being floated as a replacement would be to give seven points for a touchdown with the option to run what is now a two-point conversion play for an eighth point.
Bulls sign Martin to 10-day deal
The Bulls Monday re-signed Cartier Martin to a second 10-day contract.
Martin, a 6-foot-7 forward, originally signed a 10-day deal with the Bulls on Jan. 10. In three games with the Bulls, Martin has averaged 5 points and 1 rebound. For a team lacking shooters, Martin can contribute in spot minutes.
