FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jane Eileen Coomes, 54, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, after a sudden and unexpected illness.

She was born Aug. 5, 1959, in Dixon, to her parents, Dennis and Eileen Coomes. Jane was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a master’s degree in education. For 30 years, she taught children with special needs at Woodland Junior High School in Fayetteville.

She was from a close-knit family, and is survived by her sisters and brothers, Barbara Meek of Fort Wayne, Ind., Margaret “Margo” Heinzelmann and Julie Coomes, both of Fayetteville, Colleen Visker of Roseville, Calif., and Dennis Coomes, Paul Coomes, and Mary Ellen Schryver, all of Dixon; and many nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service to celebrate Jane’s life will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Starr Drive in Fayetteville. Local funeral services will be at a later date in Dixon. Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, 877 S. California Blvd., Fayetteville, to support programs in special education; or to the First Responders of the Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, 17150 Lake Sequoyah Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72701.
