Hawks second at Big Northern

Behind the Scheidecker sisters, Alyson and Abigail, the Oregon girls bowling team finished second at the Big Northern Conference tournanent on Monday at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford.

The Hawks had a pinfall of 5,197, behind just Marengo, which had 5,308.

Alyson Scheidecker finished second overall with a six-game total of 1,211, two pins behind the individual champ, Rockford Lutheran's Dakotah Hazelwood. Hazelwood rolled a last-game 221 to overtake Scheidecker, who finished with a 190.

Abigail Scheidecker placed fifth overall with a six-game total of 1,161.

Sterling 2,278, Galesburg 2,091: Destinee Howard turned in a 584 series as the Golden Warriors topped the Silver Streaks at Blackhawk Lanes.

Howard rolled games of 196, 202 and 186 to account for her series total. Magan Tintori was next with games of 192, 210 and 177 for a 579 series.

Boys basketball

Raiders lose two: AFC ventured to the South Beloit MLK Tournament and dropped a pair of games, 63-38 to Mooseheart and 73-72 to North Boone.

Bret Gittleson led the way against Mooseheart with 21 points. He and Matt Gendusa each scored 18 against North Boone, with Kevin Kurz (16) and Bobby Larke (10) also reaching double figures.

Girls basketball

Prophetstown 77, Riverdale 31: The Prophets outscored the Rams 33-6 in the final quarter to break open what had been a competitive game in Port Byron.

Clare Kramer paced a balanced Prophetstown (21-2, 9-0 Three Rivers North) attack with 14 points, Karlie Stafford had 13, and Cydney Westen added 10.

Sydney Mericle paced Riverdale (13-9, 6-3) with 14 points.

AFC 63, Milledgeville 54: Cassidy Koning had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals as the Raiders topped the Missiles in Ashton.

Also for AFC (11-6, 4-3 NUIC East), Alisyn Essex had 13 points and six boards, Krista Beach had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals, and Allison Prestegaard finished with 11 points, 11 boards and eight blocked shots.

For Milledgeville (5-15, 2-6), Taylor Grenoble had 17 points, and Jenna Bibler added 15.
