Eastland boys survive scare
Cougars nip Stockton in 2 OT; SHS wrestlers roll
Skylar Paulson scored 25 points as the Eastland boys basketball team survived a double-overtime scare from Stockton before winning 72-71 Wednesday night at Lanark.
The Cougars (12-2, 5-0 NUIC West) got away with missing 31 free throws, as they went 25-for-56 from the line. Dalton Shaner added 17 points and Marshall Fink 13 for Eastland.
Sam VenHuizen poured in 32 points for Stockton (7-8, 2-4).
Byron 71, Oregon 33: The Tigers built a 33-15 halftime advantage and cruised past the Hawks in Big Northern West play at Byron.
Daniel Lowe scored 19 points and Clayton Hoover 17 for Byron (10-4, 3-1).
Jessie McKinley led Oregon (4-12, 0-4) with 14 points.
Sterling 73, Freeport 3: The Warriors barely had to break a sweat in rolling to a victory against Freeport at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
Isaac Figueroa (120 pounds) and Will Canales (220) won by pin; Jaden Urrutia (113) and Zach Depuy (132) won by technical fall; and Andrew Garcia (138) won a decision.
Sterling (13-4) also received seven forfeits.
Dakota 59, Rock Falls 12: Carlos Loyola (170) won by injury default, while Lucas Newburgh (182) and Francisco Arellano (195) won decisions for the Rockets against the Indians in Dakota.
Thunder drop pair: Devin Saunder (160/170) pinned a pair of opponents for West Carroll in losses to Polo (45-34) and Durand-Pecatonica (42-27) at Savanna.
Jacob Casey (120) earned a pin and a decision for West Carroll.
For Polo, Jeff Kimpel won by pin at 182, while Noah Gipe won a decision at 138.
Polo also topped Durand-Pecatonica 45-33. Jesse Ditzler (126), Ethan Cain (160) and Kimpel (182) each won by pin.
