Donald P. Hopper

FRANKLIN GROVE – Donald Peterson Hopper, 86, of Franklin Grove, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He was a lifetime farmer in the Lee County area, and worked for the John Deere dealership in Dixon for 20 years before retiring.

Donald was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Huron, S.D., the son of Ivan and Margaret (Peterson) Hopper. He married Betty Lou Goeman on Jan. 20, 1952, in Woonsocket, S.D. Donald served in the Army. He was a member of the Living History Antique Equipment Association in Franklin Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hopper of Franklin Grove; one son, Donald (Bonnie) Hopper of Amboy; one daughter, Deborah Bubrick of Dixon; two brothers, Howard (Del Rita) Hopper of Watertown, S.D., and Richard Hopper of Forestburg, S.D.; one sister, Norma (Lewis) Patterson of Howard, S.D.; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Erik Atkinson) Bubrick, Erin (Shane) Knapp, Kevin (Stephanie) Hopper, and Kelly (James Miles) Hopper; and four great-grandchildren, Brody Hopper, Marlee Hopper, Margaret Atkinson, and Jense Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Hopper; one brother, Robert Hopper; and his son-in-law, Bruce Bubrick.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Per Donald’s request, there will not be any funeral service or visitation. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established.
