I might as well start off the year by letting you all in on some really big news in the tournament scene.
Now, you all know that the Dixon Cabela's tournament has been the most successful tournament in the history of Cabela's-run catfish tournaments. That is all five of them, the best five ... ever.
OK, well, the great sponsors in Dixon have decided that having them here for just 1 day wasn't quite good enough. So now, this massively popular tournament will last 2 days this year.
That's right, 2 days long. Twice the weigh-ins, twice the catfishin', and twice the fun. I envisioned this tourney being successful when we first planned it, but I must say that it has far exceeded my expectations.
So this year, catfishermen, women and children will take to the Rock for 2 days, June 6th and June 7th. Once again, the registration and seminar will be held from 5-7 on Thursday night at ACE Hardware, located at 900 Galena Avenue in Dixon. The weigh-in will once again be at Page Park, and the host hotel will again be the Comfort Inn in Dixon.
I say it every year, but it is worth repeating ... get involved, one way or another. Fish it, attend it, whatever.
More great news on the Cabela's front has been announced as well. This is an obvious move that was based off the success that we have had here in Dixon. This year, Cabela's has decided to have two championship tournaments. They will hold an East championship, as well as a West championship.
The East championship will be held in South Carolina, while the West championship will be held on the Mississippi River in Rock Island, and will include the Rock River all the way up to Erie. Yep, you think they sat up and took notice … finally? This is just another testament to the people of the Rock River valley.
Now, the registration for this tournament will be at the La Quinta Inn on Kimberly Road in Davenport, which is also the host hotel. The tournament will launch out of Sunset Park, which is where the weigh-in is to take place, as of now.
Along with fisherman being able to fish the Rock from the Erie bridge down, they will also be able to fish the Mississippi River pools 14, 15 and 16.
Now, this should have you all fired up by now. What a deal; we are definitely headed in the right direction. I am looking forward to another great Dixon tourney, and also hope we are well-represented at the championships.
Whoa, whoa, whoa … I ain't done yet. One more important thing: We will also be having another manufactured bait-only tournament on the Rock River this year. This tournament is a ton of fun, and really levels the playing field for everyone to compete in.
Now, I will bring all the details to you a couple weeks prior to the tournament, which will be held in April or May. The tournament will once again be sponsored by the great people at G and S Cheese Bait.
So there you have it. A little preview of some big news for 2014 ... and it's only January. Until next week, get outside and …
