Grateful for success of holiday party

Published: Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

On Dec. 20, the Sterling-Rock Falls Jaycees had its annual Christmas for Kids Party at the Moose Lodge in Sterling. This event is by far the most important to all of the Jaycees members.

The Jaycees get a list of families from local social support organizations. The names of the children are divided among the Jaycees membership, and each Jaycee is responsible for Christmas shopping for toys and clothes for their assigned children.

This year, the Jaycees bought items for more than 50 kids of all different ages. During the event, Culver’s of Rock Falls provides a meal for everyone. This year (as in every year), Santa stopped off and made an appearance to meet and greet the children along with distributing some early Christmas gifts.

This would not be possible without the continued support from the local businesses and people.

The Sterling-Rock Falls Jaycees would like to thank all of the businesses that make all of this possible.

Thank you to Walmart Supercenter, Jason Roe and Culver’s of Rock Falls, and the Sterling Moose Family Center. Also, thank you to all who donated money during the bucket brigade on Dec. 21.

Last, but certainly not least, a very big thank you to Blain’s Farm & Fleet and store manager Dan Heslop on the very generous donations.

We thank you and wish you all a happy new year.

Note to readers: Nick Hubbard was the event chairman.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
