DIXON – A Dixon man has been charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he crashed head-on into an oncoming car Dec. 30.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Dec. 30, Ronald Tinder, 80, was heading south on state Route 2 near Lost Nation Road when he crossed the center line and struck a car driven by Earleen Hinton, 54, of Grand Detour, Lee County Sheriff John Varga said.

Hinton and Tinder were both taken to KSB Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, Varga said.

Hinton is the general manager of Oregon-based Ogle County Newspapers, a part of Shaw Media, which also owns Sauk Valley Media.
