CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has named a new deputy chief of staff who’s well-known for his work in the president’s office and on the campaigns of various Illinois Democrats.

Ken Bennett also will serve as director of the mayor’s office of public engagement. He began his career in government as an aide in the office of former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington.

He was state director for Obama’s U.S. Senate Campaign and 2008 campaign for president before working in the White House. He also worked on the campaign of Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan for the state Democratic Party.
