ROCK FALLS – Betty L. Betts, 87, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Betts was born May 15, 1926, in Vandalia, the daughter of Francis and Maude (Pope) Bethard. She was a graduate of Rock Falls High School. She married Mel R. Betts on Sept. 8, 1946. Mrs. Betts retired from Wilkins-Lowe Insurance Co. in Sterling after 23 years of service. Later, she worked part-time at Wheelock Furniture Store in Rock Falls, retiring after 18 years of service. Mrs. Betts was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling and a longtime member of the Ladies of the Elks.

Survivors include her son, Mel E. Betts of Peoria; her daughter, Patricia (Rob) Henson of Rock Falls; two grandsons, Jeff (Shelley) Henson and Kevin (Janelle) Henson; one granddaughter, Sara Betts Hilyard; and six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alyssa, MacKenzie, Noah, Ava, and Zoe Henson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Emmet Betts; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Oehlert officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
